Prof. Hitoshi Mikada from Kyoto University, Japan Visited the Forum of IGG

(Correspondent Luo Tianya) In the morning of November 4th, at the invitation of Dean Xiong Xiong and Professor Hu Xiangyun of the Institute of Geophysics and Geomatics, Professor Hitoshi Mikada, Director of the Laboratory of Applied Geophysics, School of Earth Sciences and Resource Engineering, Kyoto University, Japan, made a visit to our college and made an academic report entitled "Latest Technology Development of Kyoto University Using Wavefield Theory in Applied Geophysics". More than 50 teachers and students attended the lecture.

Professor Hitoshi Mikada first introduced the problems encountered in the application of ground penetrating radar, such as the case where the detection target is located below the building and the radar instrument cannot reach the target body. Aiming at such problems, a method of obliquely incident electromagnetic waves is introduced, and the method is modeled and simulated. Then Professor Hitoshi Mikada introduced the seismic wave full-wave inversion method, and also gave a few examples to explain.

During the discussion after the report, Professor Hitoshi Mikada and the teachers and students had an in-depth exchange on the differences between full-wave inversion methods in seismic and electromagnetic field research, the characteristics of full-wave inversion and ray tracing methods.
