In the morning of June 13, at the invitation of Dean Xiong Xiong and Professor Hu Xiangyun of the Institute of Geophysics and Geomatics, Professor Li Yaoguo, a famous geophysicist from Colorado School of Mines, visited the college and delivered the academic report of "Writing and Publishing in International Scientific Journals: Guidelines to Technical Writing in English". More than 40 teachers and students attended the lecture.

Prof. Li first introduced the importance of scientific writing, believing that scientific writing is an important way to present individual and team research results and an indispensable part of individual academic career. Therefore, every graduate student is encouraged to master the writing skills and writing standards of scientific papers. Starting from the basic elements of an academic paper, Prof. Li introduced the characteristics and writing methods of the basic units of the paper in the order of Abstract, Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion and Conclusions. Finally, Prof. Li introduced the basic process of paper submission and review for the students based on his own writing and contribution experience.

In the discussion session after the report, Prof. Li communicated with the present teachers and students about the order of the articles they read and the problems they encountered in their submission, encouraging them to have the courage to innovate, to challenge the authority and to forge ahead on the academic road.
